Speaking following Bucs’ third straight defeat to Cape Town City last Saturday, Lane expressed his opinion that the players appeared disinterested.
“I just believe that athletes need to examine themselves as persons and inquire as to what is happening. Why aren’t we acting in the manner that is expected of us? via Sowetan Live, asked Lane.
“I believe that each player must take a good look in the mirror and remind themselves that they are competing for a very large club, its fans, and its badge. It’s up to them to pick up the pieces and exercise their own leadership. Really, it’s awful.
“Losing three straight games is bad news for any team, especially a huge club like Pirates. Everyone will tell you to fire the coach, but who are you going to replace him with?
The constant switching of coaches is never easy. If you are on the outside looking in and say, “Let’s get rid of the coach because he is bad news,” it is simple. But is it him, or are his methods flawed? Or are the players failing to meet expectations?
“If you look at the Sundowns team, every player wants to play for the team, and everyone on the bench appears to be content and at ease in their roles. However, when it comes to Pirates players, they appear uninterested,” said the 1995 CAF champion.
