Thursday evening, authorities reacted to a gunshot at a Walmart in Evansville, Indiana, where they reported at least one victim was injured. According to authorities, the suspect was killed following a shootout with police.

Thursday evening, the Evansville Police Department tweeted about the incident and urged people to avoid the area: “Active shooter inside Walmart West. EPD has arrived. Avoid the region!

During a press conference held hours after the incident was initially reported, Sgt. Anna Gray of the Evansville Police Department stated that the suspect ran throughout the store during the gunfire with police.

Gray stated, “He would shoot at officers and then flee.” “He was everywhere in the store.”

Gray verified the evacuation of one female casualty to the hospital. She added that the police reacted quickly and did not wait outside the store.

“We’ve been instructed that if there’s an active threat, we go in immediately without pausing or trying to figure out what’s happening. We enter the area where shots are being fired, said Gray.

A few minutes after the first tweet, the EPD said that the suspect had been “neutralized.”

“Threat neutralized and in custody,” police reported.

They added that authorities were assisting an unspecified number of people.

According to reports, other victims fled the store as police arrived on the site. EPD urged any victims who may have been hurt to seek medical attention.

Breann Boswell of 14 News stated that the male suspect fired “multiple times” at officers before they returned fire and killed him.

Wayne Hart of WEHT also reported that the guy was fatally shot.

The Evansville Police Department has been contacted by Fox News for additional information.

Gray has requested that witnesses provide information that will aid in their inquiry.

She stated Thursday night, “Many people were fleeing.” “We do request that any witnesses with information contact us.”

The location of the store is 335 S. Red Bank Road.
