ASUU issues a bulletin to update members on the on-going strike says the strike continues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a bulletin to provide its members with the most up-to-date information on the current developments. The following is a rundown of the most significant updates:

  • Our strike has now been in effect for 16 weeks.
  • Members are commended for their commitment and steadfastness in the patriotic struggle for the survival of our country’s university system as the struggle continues.
  • Members are commended in particular for remaining loyal to the Union despite the hardships imposed on our families as a result of the salary freeze. You have stated unequivocally that we are not beggars, and as a result, hunger is an ineffective tool for breaking our resolve.
  • The government has been forced to sit down and negotiate with us because of our unwavering resolve. We’ve met with the Federal Government Team five times and the Minister of Education twice.
  • The renegotiation of the ASUU-FGN agreement, which was signed in 2009, is going well and has reached an advanced stage. We must, however, remain focused until the end of this battle.
  • For the third time, UTAS has been put to the test. NITDA has tested UTAS and UPS so far, and IPPIS will be tested next week. The antics of some government officials in this regard haven’t deterred us.
  • Hunger, misinformation, factual distortions, intimidation, and other arbitrary acts of arm-twisting have clearly failed to break our resolve in the past; they should not break us now.
  • Ignore fake news and divisive information coming from social media and some parts of the media. If you have any questions, contact your Chairperson for clarification.
  • We are on the verge of achieving victory. Let us maintain our commitment to the Union. A united people can never be defeated.
