Arthur Zwane needs time to develop

Johannesburg – Being a Kaizer Chiefs supporter must be nice. The club pampered you by signing nearly everyone you desired until you decided to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Fans supported Arthur Zwane’s appointment as coach of the Chiefs because they believed he would restore the team’s winning culture and identity.

However, the 48-year-old manager has yet to finish 10 matches in command, and a group of fans are already asking for his dismissal. Shambolic!

The Chiefs are off to a mediocre start, having won two games, drawn two games, and lost three games. In this season’s tournament, though, everyone is beatable.

Both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have fallen twice in the MTN8 thus far, but all three teams are still in contention for the title after reaching the semifinals.

Surprisingly, Pirates and Sundowns have made little noise over firing their managers, despite the fact that their fans have little influence in their transfer policy.

Chiefs’ fans have had input on the club’s new signings, who were anticipated to align with Zwane’s ideology and rebuilding strategy.

As part of the effort to rebuild the club, Ashely du Preez (25), Kamohelo Mahlatsi (24), and Dillan Solomons (22) were among the young players signed.

And with their arrival, the Chiefs were forced to release several veterans, including captain Bernard Parker, who had an ambivalent relationship with the fans.

However, in less than a month on the job, a number of social media posts have called for Zwane to be demoted or fired and replaced by Pitso Mosimane.

Mosimane is one of the best coaches to emerge from South Africa, with his ability to win championships bringing him as far as Al Ahly, but whether he is the appropriate man to head Chiefs is a different matter. Amakhosi broke the bank in order to get players fit for Zwane, not Mosimane.

What then must they do? Fans are so impatient that they want Zwane out and Mosimane in charge; hence, the team should be shuffled once more.

That would be an extreme action, taking advantage of Chiefs’ bad leadership, as well as an insult to Zwane, who has been a dedicated servant.

Although his objective is to rebuild the team, Zwane is not naive. He is aware that he must produce results, which is why the integration of youth has been gradual.

Coach Stuart Baxter was fired after omitting Nkosingiphile Ngcobo from the team during the previous season, which sparked outrage from the supporters.

Zwane has utilized the 22-year-old as an impact player, recognizing the attributes and experience Siyethemba Sithebe (29) contributes to the team.

Errors are a part of the game, and supporters are the club’s spiritual owners. But Chiefs fans must be patient with Zwane and observe the development of “Mangethe football.”
