Arabic Language Academy participates in ADIBF 2022

SHARJAH, 20th May, 2022 (WAM) — The Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Sharjah is participating in the 31st edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF), from 23rd to 29th May.

ALA will participate through its platform, No. D28, known for its educational and research activities, most notably the project of the historical lexicon of the Arabic language, and programmes for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers.

During ALA participation in ADIBF, the Academy will organise a panel discussion under the title: “The Role of the Historical Lexicon of the Arabic Language in Documenting the Evolution of Terminology through the Ages and Migratory Words”, at ADIBF youth platform, on Tuesday, 24th May, at 3:00 pm. The participants include Dr. Muhammed Safi Al Mostaghanemi, Secretary General of the ALA in Sharjah, Dr. Muhammad Al-Amin Al-Smalali, linguist at the Department of Culture in Sharjah, and Dr. Ghassan Al Sheikh, professor of Islamic jurisprudence and its origins, and Dr. Issa Al-Hammadi, Director of the Arabic Language Educational Centre for Gulf States (ALECGS).

The panel discussion includes seven themes tackling the journey of the historical lexicon project for the Arabic language from the crystallisation of the idea until its implementation, the role of the lexicon in helping future linguists to trace the history of the development of terms and their connotations since its inception until the present time, and the impact of documenting the “birth of terms”.

The Academy at its pavilion presents versions of the new issue of the quarterly magazine “Al Arabiya Lisani” (Arabic is my language), which sheds light on many issues of interest to the Arabic language, in addition to displaying a series of videos that introduce the work of the Academy and cooperation with Arab academies and teaching institutes in the region.
