The Chairman of APC USA, Professor Tai Balofin, reassured Nigerians in Abuja that President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to alleviating the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
Balofin expressed confidence in Tinubu’s plan to address the issues arising from this decision and urged the public to be patient.
Price Increase and NLC’s Response
Since President Tinubu’s announcement of the federal government’s inability to sustain fuel subsidy, the price of petrol at the pump has risen from N195 to N540 per litre.
This substantial increase prompted a strong response from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which threatened a nationwide strike to push for a reversal of the decision.
Appeal for Understanding and Patience
Despite acknowledging the struggles faced by his compatriots from his position overseas, Balofin appealed to Nigerians for understanding and patience.
He expressed trust in the President’s ability to implement measures that would prevent the subsidy removal from having an excessive impact.
Collective Decision and Positive Outcomes
The APC USA chairman reiterated that the removal of the subsidy was a collective decision approved by stakeholders and members of the House of Representatives.
He urged lawmakers to effectively communicate to Nigerians the potential positive outcomes of this policy change.
Fuel Subsidy’s Limited Benefits and Hope for the Future
APC USA chieftain Tunde Doherty highlighted that fuel subsidy had not contributed to Nigeria’s development, describing it as a long-lasting “infectious enjoyment.”
Drawing comparisons with the United Kingdom and the United States, where no subsidies are offered, Doherty expressed optimism about President Tinubu’s plan to mitigate the effects of the fuel price increase.
He emphasized the importance of being truthful to Nigerians about the limitations of oil subsidies and expressed hope for a future where Nigerians would no longer suffer due to the lack of subsidy.
APC USA stands by President Tinubu’s commitment to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria.
They urge patience and understanding from the public while highlighting the collective decision-making process and the potential positive outcomes of this policy change.
The APC USA leaders emphasize the limited benefits of fuel subsidies and express optimism about President Tinubu’s ability to cushion the effects of the price increase in the near future.
