ANCYL Congress Planning Committee in Limpopo to meet over credentials of delegates

Limpopo African National Congress Youth League’s Congress Planning Committee says it will meet on Tuesday to deal with the credentials of the delegates. This follows the collapse of the provincial conference in Mokopane.

The Youth League elective conference was due to elect its top five leaders and additional members at the weekend.

A dispute emerged after the chairperson and a secretary of Vhembe region produced two parallel lists of candidates. The conference was not able to verify the credentials of those delegates, leading to a postponement of the congress until further notice.

The committee spokesperson Dan Madibana says the meeting will decide on the new date for the conference.

“When we discuss credentials, we realise that there is a region of Vhembe, which had a duplicate of delegates. And we could not confirm who were the right delegates because there was a disagreement between the chairperson and the secretary in terms of who the right delegates are. But because we don’t want this conference to be taken to court, we have arrived unanimously at a decision that we should postpone the conference to deal with the issue of credentials, because we don’t want a situation where we elect a leadership, after two weeks or a week that leadership is going to be nullified by the court.”

The committee says the cancellation of the conference has cost implications:
