An off-duty NSW Police policeman was discovered dead in Royal National Park, south of Sydney.

A young off-duty police officer’s corpse has been discovered following what is thought to have been an apparent suicide.

After the 23-year-corpse old’s was discovered in Sydney’s Royal National Park early on Saturday morning, NSW Police opened a critical incident investigation.

Around 10.30 p.m. on Friday, officers received a call expressing worries for the wellbeing of the off-duty policeman.

After some searching, his corpse was discovered shortly before 1am on Saturday in the park south of Sydney.

The 23-year-old was employed in the Bankstown local area command.

Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad have launched a critical incident investigation and will prepare a report for the Coroner.

The investigation will also be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and independently oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
