A four-day-old baby boy passed away after dozing off on a sofa close to his mother.

Emma, the mother of Jory James, was in so much discomfort following the Caesarean section delivery that she was unable to ascend to the bedrooms in her St Ives, Cornwall, house.

Today, it was revealed at an inquest regarding Jory’s death in June 2020 that Ms. James, a single mother, was not provided with any assistance following her hospital release.

When Emma discovered a blanket covering Jory’s head when she woke up, she told the senior coroner for Cornwall, Andrew Cox, that it’s likely that he may have suffocated or overheated.

Ms. James had slept on a sofa with Jory in a Moses basket on the floor, according to the Truro inquest.

She did, however, feed him between three and four in the morning before using cushions to prop up her infant.

According to the inquest, Ms. James slept off and discovered her kid floppy and not breathing when she woke up.

The cause of the infant’s death was not determined by a post mortem.

Ms. James testified at the inquest that her son’s death could have been prevented because, despite being in pain from the C section, she received no aid with mobility at home.
