Amakhosi determined to defeat Royal AM

Kaizer Chiefs are still searching for their first victory over Royal AM, and Polokwane will be the ideal location for them to finally end their winless streak.

Amakhosi have been humiliated by Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize’s side since their arrival in the DStv Premiership two years ago. Chiefs have a large support in Limpopo, and they may be able to strangle Amakhosi.

Royal defeated Amakhosi 4-1 before handing them two 1-0 losses. Therefore, coach Arthur Zwane and his team are fully aware of the stakes tonight.

Unusual 5.30 p.m. start time for a Sunday match.

John Mpe, the executive mayor of Polokwane Municipality, revealed on Friday that the municipality had secured a three-season agreement with Amakhosi to host part of their games at Peter Mokaba stadium. Chiefs will host Golden Arrows in Polokwane on February 19 and will meet Soweto rivals Swallows FC on May 2.

Since the beginning of the year, the Soweto giants have been in dismal form, failing to record a victory, allowing six goals in three matches, and failing to score a single goal in 2023.

This has placed enormous pressure on Zwane to devise a turnaround strategy.

Kgaogelo Sekgota, a flying winger for the Chiefs who hails from Polokwane, is delighted to showcase his skills in his birthplace.

“Obviously, it is my hometown, and I am really thrilled, but winning the match there is the most important thing.

“There are still many games to play, and we are motivated.

Our technical team is really optimistic about us, and we will persevere to the end.”

Chiefs also have a huge number of injured players and this has contributed to the Naturena club falling dismally behind in their bid for the league crown. Injured players include Khama Billiat, Erick Mathoho, Alexander Cole, and Phathu Nange.

“Unfortunately, we will not see Khama in the near future. Therefore, we are still awaiting the doctor’s report,” Zwane stated.

“Last week, or two weeks ago, we were preparing Mathoho for the game, but he was unable to play due to a toe injury.

“We believed he would be fully recovered last week when he resumed jogging, but the injury flared up once more. We must rest him, as he has not yet totally recovered.”
