Amajuba district’s top matriculate has limitless potential

She is covered for all the top spots, and she has just been accepted and received a scholarship to study medicine at the best institution in Africa.

Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Town, called Sinakhokonke Siyaya to notify her that she had won a scholarship to study medicine.

Siyaya, who earned eight distinctions and passed the exam, came in first position in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, second nationwide, and third in her district of Amajuba.

“Spent the weekend phoning the top matriculants that applied to study at UCT to ask them to accept the VC’s [vice-chancellor] Blue Carpet Scholarship offer,” Phakeng said with a picture of herself and the delighted Siyaya on Twitter. Sinakhokonke from Osizweni is one of them.

With her interview, the vivacious top student from Phendukani High School enthralled viewers by stating that she plans to study medicine at UCT because it is the best university on the continent and that she wants to specialize in oncology in order to be the first person to discover a cure for cancer.

“I saw your name on the list of students receiving the Vice-Blue Chancellor’s Carpet Scholarship. You have been approved to pursue an MBChB. You have been given a bed at our new house on Avenue Road as well as a R100,000 scholarship.

Phakeng described the advantages of receiving the scholarship to Siyaya, saying “You will be invited all year to private parties given by the vice-chancellor.”

Siyaya will have the vice chancellor’s phone number on fast dial and may contact her if she has an issue, the vice chancellor said.

Siyaya’s accomplishments are celebrated across KwaZulu-Natal, according to Muzi Mahlambi, the provincial spokesman for education. Mahlambi stated, “We are really thrilled for her and satisfied with her performance.

“We constantly tell them that there are various options available. Work hard is what they must do. Work hard and you’ll attract good individuals into your life.
