Alice Evans, 25, notices maggots on Lidl eggs in Maidstone, Kent

A mom says rotten Lidl eggs contaminated her shopping and fridge with ‘hundreds of writhing maggots’

Alice Evans from Maindstone, Kent, uploaded frightening video of maggots in a rotting egg she meant to serve her 2-year-old daughter.

The 25-year-old threw out her whole £60 food buy because of maggots.

Alice claimed she smelled ‘rotting fish’ when she opened her fridge, and despite the eggs being within date, one split apart to show maggot-infested black insides.

Lidl claimed their “high standards were not fulfilled” and gave the consumer a new item and a gift of goodwill.

Alice remarked, “My boyfriend just put away the groceries.”

I opened my fridge and smelled rotten fish, so I emptied it out and cleaned it.

‘When I opened the eggs to put them in the fridge, I observed maggots crawling everywhere.

“I was shocked. Disgusting. It’s dangerous.

‘The grocery bag also had maggots in the bottom.

‘So I had to throw out all my food that was in that shopping bag, particularly because I had two small children.

What if the shell hadn’t broken and I’d boiled and given my kid the egg? That was terrible.

Alice’s Lidl in Farleigh Hill, Maidstone, Kent, awarded her just £12 in compensation, stating they can’t refund her whole buy without ‘evidence’ of maggots in the food bag.

She protested to customer support, but claims it was futile since she no longer possessed the egg box’s barcode.

Manager stated, “It could happen in any business. A fly may lay maggots on crops “less

He apologised and gave me a free carton of eggs. I didn’t accept it; I wasn’t pleased.

I believe they handled it poorly. They must control this health concern.

I don’t know whether they inspect eggs before selling them, but it doesn’t appear like they do.

When placing eggs on shelves, they should inspect for maggots.

The mother swears to examine eggs before giving them to her daughter and urges others to do the same.

Alice replied, “People suggest to inspect eggs before buying them to make sure none are cracked, but we don’t eat that many, so I never did.

“I won’t buy at Lidl again”

Lidl’s spokesman stated, ‘We’re sorry to hear about this; we never want a customer to be unhappy.’

We work closely with our suppliers to give high-quality items to our consumers. Our high requirements weren’t satisfied, therefore we were disappointed.

The consumer was offered a replacement item and a gesture of goodwill upon returning to the business.
