Adulterated Fuel: Nigeria House of Reps Orders NNPC To Suspend Companies Involved

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been ordered to suspend enterprises implicated in illegal fuel importation by the House of Representatives.
The recent importation of contaminated Premium Motor Spirit, often known as petrol, into Nigeria sparked outrage in the House of Representatives plenary on Thursday.
As a result, the House decided to look into the situation, insisting that the government officials involved in the import and distribution chains, whose actions or inactivity contributed to the commodity’s proliferation, be held accountable.
MRS Oil Nigeria Plc and Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited had exchanged responsibility over the problem.
MRS and three other dealers were named by NNPC Limited’s Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, as the company that imported the contaminated items into Nigeria.
But MRS had on Wednesday denied any involvement in the imports of the adulterated products, as it explained that methanol was prohibited in petrol imported into Nigeria.
