Admission Form for NMU/NDA Postgraduate & Professional Certificate programmes


Admission to the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) / Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) postgraduate and professional certificate programmes is open to interested and appropriately qualified applications.

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and the Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) Okerenkoko Delta State are currently accepting applications for admission to the 2022/2023 academic session of the following jointly managed programs:

Maritime Security and Safety (Certificate Course, PGD, M.Sc., Ph.D.); Maritime Dispute Management and Resolution (Certificate Course); Maritime Risks Analysis and Disaster Management (Certificate Course, PGD); Maritime Entrepreneurship (Certificate Course); Maritime Transport Technology (Certificate Course, PGD/M.Sc., PhD); Transportation Management (PGD, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Certificate Course).

Study centres include NDA Kaduna, NMU Delta State, and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, with Full-time, Part-time, Online, and hybrid study modes available.

Duration:

Post Graduate Certificate (PG Certificate) – 8 Months
Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) – 16 Months
MA/MSC – Two Years
PhD – 48 Months

With academic activities beginning in November 2022, all programmes will operate without industrial actions such as the ASUU STRIKE, and certain programmes will include excursions/practical sessions at the NDA, NMU, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron, and the Regional Maritime University of Ghana.

Admission Requirements:

To be eligible for any of the mentioned certificate programs, applicants must have earned five (5) credit passes on the O/Level or its equivalent. Acceptable are comparable work experience and associated professional certifications; To be eligible for admission to any of the postgraduate programmes, a candidate must, among other prerequisites, have earned at least five (5) credit passes in matriculation, including English Language and Mathematics.

Some programmes may allow at least a pass in Mathematics; For Postgraduate Diploma Programmes, Candidates must possess either a Third Class (Honours) Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from a university recognized by the Senate of the NDA/NMU OR a Higher National Diploma with a Lower Credit.

For Master’s degree programmes, candidates must acquire a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of Second Class Lower in relevant subjects of study from a recognized Nigerian or foreign university.

However, holders with lesser grades OR a Postgraduate Diploma from a recognized university in comparable fields of study may be allowed.

For the Doctor of Philosophy Degree programmes, candidates must hold a master’s degree in relevant fields of study from an accredited university with a minimum score average of at least 60% or a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 on a 5-point scale.

Those with a lower grade point average who have ongoing work experience and professional certifications may be accepted.

Present the National Youth Service Corps Discharge Certificate, Exemption Certificate, Military Service Record, or Paramilitary Service Record (where appropriate);
