A man was caught on CCTV stowing products from an automotive shop under his infant in a pram, but a store employee claims he ‘understands’ why he did it.
The father was reportedly seen at an unnamed supermarket in Adelaide shoving goods beneath his infant in a pram, but when the baby fussed, he allegedly took out his belt and placed a GPS device under his trousers.
‘I realize these are difficult times,’ he said.
‘But you don’t have to go to such extremes.’
He said that shoplifting attempts had increased and were only becoming ‘worse and worse.’
‘In the past three months, we’ve seen the number of stolen and lost products quadruple, if not treble.’
According to recent South Australian police figures, stealing in the state has increased by about a third in the last year.
Storeowners have been the victims of a rash of small crimes as Australia’s inflation rate has risen to 7.75 percent in the December quarter of this year. The Adelaide incident reminded me of a fight in April involving a lady driving a babyless pram and a shop employee in front of a Gold Coast Supercheap Auto store.
The lady reportedly hid stolen things from the business inside her pram before being apprehended by the tough cashier.
The guy stepped in front of the suspected robber and seized the pram’s handles.
During the dramatic stoush, the mother screamed, ‘Let my baby go,’ to which the employee answered, ‘You don’t even have a kid in there.’
After then, the mother pushed a bundle from the pram to the ground.
Instead of a baby, there were a couple huge, reportedly stolen boxes on the pavers.
She then left the scene while calling the shop clerk a “f***head.”
The attendant quickly quit the automobile chain shop after the company voiced dissatisfaction with how the employee handled the issue.
