A “high-speed” van slammed a Belgian cafe patio, injuring six


The scary moment a van struck people on a cafe terrace in Belgium at a “very high speed” and injured six people.

On Friday afternoon about 1pm local time, the male suspect is seen on surveillance footage driving a van into the seating area outside of a cafe in the heart of Brussels.

Pictures from the scene show tables and chairs scattered on the ground outside the cafe, and six people were hurt.

After leaving the scene in his van, the driver was later pursued by authorities.

According to witnesses who spoke with Radio 1, the vehicle was travelling side by side as it approached the cafe at “breakneck speed.”

The van can be seen zooming toward the cafe in video.

The British embassy in Belgium stated that it was aware of the event that occurred close to the pedestrian Rue Neuve and advised British citizens in the vicinity to “follow official recommendations.”

The van was “travelling at an extraordinarily high speed and was going for the terrace,” according to the mayor of Brussels, Phillipe Close, who spoke to the Le Soir newspaper.
