A former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates coach believes the Soweto giants stand no chance in stopping Mamelodi Sundowns this season

The Soweto giants have little chance of defeating Mamelodi Sundowns this season, according to a former coach of the Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Last season, the Brazilians achieved an amazing domestic triple. And according to Muhsin Ertugral, Mamelodi Sundowns will have a very similar season to the last one.

Sundowns appear to have outperformed Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in terms of quality despite having somewhat interesting transfer windows.

“One of the things we undermine in football is continuity. Mamelodi Sundowns have had continuity for five years now after winning the league in succession,” Ertugral told IOL.

“The teams that are following them (Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City and Roy AM) are buying eight, nine or 10 players, and even more.

“And it doesn’t work like that. It will never work. It is like fine-tuning an orchestra. Everyone can play unplugged.

“But you won’t listen to that. You’ll listen to an orchestra in fine-tuning. And this is years, and years, of being together.

“From the most successful teams in the world, you’ll see there’s only two or three transfers that are made and not more.

“And then, there’s longevity of continuity and processing of the squad. So, again, I don’t think that Sundowns will be challenged in this season.”

In other news, it appears that Mamelodi Sundowns will defeat Kaizer Chiefs in the battle for a star Bafana Bafana midfielder!

It appears as though Bongani Zungu will return to the Premier Soccer League in grand style (PSL).

The well-traveled midfielder recently broke off contact with Amiens of France.

Both Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly had interest in signing Zungu.

The most recent sources indicate that Bongani Zungu has now been signed by Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to sources, Bongani Zungu participated in Mamelodi Sundowns’ preseason training camp.

“It now appears the 29-year-old is set for a return for a second spell at Chloorkop.” a SoccerLaduma report on the Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns target.

“With the player believed to be training with the club ahead of the new season, which kicks off on August 5 for Sundowns against Cape Town City.

“Playing in Europe has been a big priority for Bongani Zungu, as previously reported by the Siya crew.

“But Mamelodi Sundowns have been patiently waiting for the player to make a decision on where he will play his football next.

“Of the clubs in South Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns have been leading the race for the former University of Pretoria, with Kaizer Chiefs having been linked as well.”

If he does really agree to a contract with the Brazilians, he will become the latest addition to the team, joining Sipho Mbule and Ronwen Williams.

Aside from Bongani Zungu working out with the team, the Brazilians are also expected to reveal the additions of Abubeker Nassir and Abdelmounaim Boutouil.
