In Laudium, Tshwane, Netcare 911 was alerted to reports of an unconscious person.
When medical personnel came, they discovered people performing CPR on a baby.
The resuscitation process was immediately taken over by Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioners.
The infant, who was reportedly found by a man rummaging through a trash can and was wrapped in garments and placed in a plastic bag, was estimated to be around 6 days old.
Despite the paramedics’ best attempts, the infant’s health quickly worsened and he or she was tragically proclaimed dead a short while later.
The SAPS officers who responded to the situation will investigate into the circumstances that led to the baby being found in the trash can.
