Over a year later, at least 383 individuals have pled guilty in relation to the uprising.

Jon Schaffer, the guitarist who established the metal band Iced Earth, was the first individual to plead guilty and agree to cooperate with prosecutors, according to documents from the Department of Justice. Schaffer is also a member of the Oath Keepers, a self-styled militia whose attack on the Capitol, according to prosecutors, was planned and practiced weeks in advance.

Paul Hodgkins was the first protest participant to be convicted of a felony offense. He will serve eight months in prison and pay a reparation fee of $2,000.

During his confirmation hearing, Attorney General Merrick Garland informed the Senate that he intended to personally oversee the Justice Department’s handling of the cases.

Garland stated, “I will supervise the prosecution of white supremacists and others who invaded the Capitol on January 6 – a terrible attack that tried to disrupt the peaceful transition of power to the newly elected government, a cornerstone of our democracy.”

After more than a year of investigating the riot, the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol will release its conclusions on June 9, 2022, highlighting previously unreported interviews with top authorities.

The Department of Justice first listed Jared Adams as a defendant who pled guilty; however, the DOJ later updated its website to reflect that Adams pled not guilty. The database of Insider has been updated accordingly.
