2023: INEC Boss reacts to reports on joining the Presidential race

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Yakubu Mahmood, has denied reports making rounds on his likely interest in contesting the 2023 presidential election.

On Sunday, the Chairman gave his reaction in a press statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Yekanmi. The INEC boss confirmed that he wasn’t interested in joining the presidential race.

The statement was titled, ‘Calls on the INEC chairman to join the 2023 presidential election’.

The need to confirm his stance on the reports came because of statements made by the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria.

They urged Nigerians not to be surprised if the INEC Chairman purchases the 100 million naira Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.

The Association added that this would be no news since the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, recently picked his APC forms.
